Tai Chi translates as Supreme Ultimate Fist.

There was the crane and the snake as witnessed by Cheng San Feng a Daoist master who, mesmerised by the agility of the crane to dance and strike and the ability of the snake to twist and turn away from any attack sat and studied and meditated and developed Tai Chi.

There was the suggestion that beings of light, eight feet tall, possibly the remnants of the citizens of Atlantis turned up in China and taught the people about energy healing, living in peace, utilising nature by learning from it so that they intimately understood the delicate balance of life, through Yin and Yang.

There was the more mundane development of Tai Chi out of the Chinese long boxing forms and other martial arts.

Wherever it came from it works on so many levels.
