Dr Mikao Usui the founder of The Reiki Healing system encouraged his students to live by the following tenet:-
Just for today, do not anger, do not worry, be filled with gratitude, devote yourself to your work, and be kind to people.
He also saw Reiki as:-
The secret method of inviting happiness. The wonderful medicine for all diseases
Reiki has been known for 2500 years. The Buddha is believed to have used a similar system of healing.
The Reiki system we use today was developed initially by Dr Mikao Usui (1865-1926) a Buddhist priest in Japan and developed further by Chujiro Hayashi (1879-1940).
Chujiro Hayashi passed his teachings onto an Hawaiian woman Mrs Hawayo Takata (1900-1980). Between 1972 and 1980 she taught 22 Reiki Masters and from them the system was disseminated to the rest of the world.
Reiki is a safe, gentle, non-intrusive technique that uses energy (the Japanese word Reiki means spiritual energy or universal life-force energy) to treat physical ailments. It is a holistic system for balancing, healing, harmonising all aspects of the person – body, mind, emotions and spirit – promoting relaxation and a sense of well-being. It is therefore complimentary to Tai Chi.
How Reiki Works
Life-force, Chi, flows within the physical body through energy centres called Chakras and pathways called Meridians as well as flowing around the body in a field of energy called the Aura.
Our energy flow becomes disrupted or blocked whenever we consciously or unconsciously accept and absorb negative words, feelings and experiences. The dis-ease engendered from negative sources can create dense energy that if it is not dispersed can transform into physical illnesses.
Reiki, being a spiritual energy vibrating at a high rate helps to break through these blockages, clearing and balancing the Chakras, clearing the Meridians and cleansing the Aura. This assists the natural healing of the body, mind, emotions and spirit.
Reiki always finds its own way to the areas of the physical and /or the energy body most in need of healing without conscious direction from the healer or the recipient and adjusts to give the person being healed as much or as little healing as they require.
Reiki can be used to heal others or can be used by the practitioner to treat themselves.
As it is the treated body that is actually doing the healing sometimes the healing can be quick or a lot of Reiki has to be used over time to achieve results. It is best not to come to Reiki with any pre-conceived idea of how it will work or in what time frame.
Reiki is not only used for treating illness its effects are beneficial to anybody and everybody.
